Wine labels infused with iconic medieval elements and artwork.
By reading Gardner's Art through the Ages: A Global History by Kleiner, Fred S. and Helen Gardner, I was able learn about artwork, religion, and society of Medieval Europe.
Additionally, I researched the history of wine and winemaking to create more accurate and/or clever wines.
I referenced artwork from Medieval Europe, as well architecture and religious materials when designing the wine labels.
The Wine Labels were created in Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.
Inspired by the grandiose architecture of Gothic churches, Gothic Reserve utilizes the design of Notre Dame's famous rose window. Additionally, the logo is meant to resemble the penmanship of literate monks in the Middle Ages with the sudden end of the curvature of the letterforms and sharp contrast in weight.
Inspired by Dante's Inferno, NiNE LEVELS specializes in a simple nine ingredient blend of organic ingredients. Additionally, the use of apples in their wine is a nod to the forbidden fruit in Genesis. Illustrations by Gustave Doré.
